Does Soy Take the “Heat” Out of a Hot Flash?

By  |

Dr. Allmen’s Comments:  The use of Soy food and Soy supplementation has long been a focus of research for the relief of hot flashes in menopausal women.  Some of the studies show that eating soy foods and using soy supplements are helpful about 30% of the time.  Other studies show no benefit.  The amount and type of soy supplementation is very important.  Most studies that show a benefit were with a dose of 50mg of a soy supplement containing mostly Daidzein and Genistein. So the bottom line regarding soy foods and soy supplements is that they may be helpful for some women and are worth a try.  If there is no relief within three months, there isn’t going to be.
