“Something’s Got to Give” and It Better Be the Facts
Did you see the 2003 romantic comedy “Something’s Got to Give” with Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson? If so, you may remember their first encounter between the sheets.
Things are heating up when Jack suddenly says “Protection?” to which Diane blithely responds “Menopause!”
When does perimenopause end and menopause begin?
Even though it is very difficult to get pregnant during perimenopause, it can definitely happen. So for Diane Keaton’s sake, I hope she was truly in menopause. That means not having a menstrual cycle for 12 months in a row. Menopause marks the end of fertility.
There is a second issue to discuss, and that is the importance of protection against the risk of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs). There is no statute of limitations on the ability to contract STD’s. Because the lining of the vagina can become more fragile and thin in menopause due to the absence of estrogen, there is often be a greater risk of infection.
So ladies, use your wisdom that has come with years of experience in all the areas of your life.
