Heart Disease Risk for Women in Perimenopause

By  |

Dr. Allmen’s Comments:  A new study by researchers at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health (see below for more info) highlights the heart disease risks for women in their forties who are transitioning thru to menopause, a period referred to as perimenopause. Since heart disease is the number one killer of women by a wide margin, it behooves women in their forties to start making the best possible lifestyle choices in terms of nutrition, exercise, weight reduction and smoking cessation. According to this study, women in perimenopause are already showing signs of atherosclerosis which will lead to heart disease like high blood pressure and heart attacks. Perimenopausal women need to be aware of the heart disease dangers in their future, so that they can be motivated to make positive changes today.
